Call for deregulation halt after Grenfell Tower Fire

Health and safety deregulation and think again

Many prominent people in the UK’s health and safety profession have called for the UK Government to put a halt on deregulation of health and safety legislation.

After the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy these bodies including The British Safety Council, IOSH and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents have sent an open letter to Prime Minister Theresa May.

The fire safety measures in place at Grenfell Tower have been questioned by many experts who consider some of the regulations out of date and in need of review.

In it they ask her to “scrap the government’s approach to health and safety deregulation and think again”.

Part B

The letter also mentions Part B of the Building Regulations 2010, this is concerned with the regulations that cover fire safety in and around property in England.

They ask the Prime Minister to address fire safety and bring it to the attention of parliament as a matter of urgency.

A link to the open letter can be found below, if you would like to add your support please click the link to register your concern.

The hope of everyone is that health and safety in the context of property management is high on the list of priorites in the next parliamentary term.
